Illegal speed limit signs are absolutely not benign. They have grave unintended consequences, and clearly infringe upon the following civil rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution:

Civil rights claims are brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. ยง 1983. “Section 1983 supplies a private right of action against a person who, under color of state law, deprives another of rights secured by the Constitution or by federal law.” Harron v. Town of Franklin. Accordingly, “[t]o make out a viable section 1983 claim, a plaintiff must show both [1] that the conduct complained of transpired under color of state law and [2] that a deprivation of federally secured rights ensued.” Id.
